David Mason papers, 1950-2000.

The collection comprises notebooks, journals, photographs, posters, programs, correspondence, reports, speeches and writings, clippings, original scores of music, and publications documenting the work and interests of Fairhaven College professor David Mason. The bulk of the collection comprises materials relating to Mason's academic work and research. Records include samples of course materials from classes taught at Western Washington University and at Fairhaven College from the 1970s through the 1990s, including materials relating to his classes in gay studies. The collection also includes project notes, published and unpublished data and research papers documenting Mason's work on the Alaskan Arctic, Mono Lake and other sites in California, Stehekin River in Whatcom county, Washington, Bellingham's Georgia-Pacific mill, and recycling in Lynden, Washington. David Mason's interest and active involvement in theatrical work is reflected in scripts, production notes and musical scores pertaining especially to the Friends of Fairhaven theater productions. Family and personal records include clippings, correspondence and photographs, as well as materials reflecting the lives and activities of his parents, scientists Lucille and Herbert Mason. Writings and art in the collection include Mason's creative stories, poems, and drawings.

David T. Mason (1937- ) received a BA in biology at Reed College (1958) before completing an MA in zoology (1961) and a doctorate in limnology (1966) at the University of California, Davis. Mason subsequently established himself in Bellingham, Washington, where he was appointed associate professor of biology at Western Washington University, and became a much beloved professor at Fairhaven College.
